Popeye

Popeye is released in 1982 by Nintendo. The game is based on Popeye cartoon featuring the main protagonist, Popeye and Olive, and also the main antagonist, Brutus.

The player plays as Popeye. His objective is to collect whatever items Olive throws from the top of the terrain before it reach the water at the bottom of the terrain. Brutus will prevent Popeye from doing so by walking around the terrain. The player is given 3 lives at the start of the game. In the game, Popeye is weaker than Brutus. Therefore, when Popeye gets in contact with Brutus he will be thrown away and the player loses a life. A life is also lost when the item thrown by Olive drowns in the water for a few seconds. A can of spinach is provided at each stage. Popeye gains power when he eats spinach (like in the cartoon) and become invincible for a few seconds. While invincible, he can throw Brutus to the water, and the items thrown by Olive will stop moving. Brutus will be back to action after a few moments after he is thrown. In the game, Brutus will be the main obstacle for the player to collect items. Brutus is able to jump down one and jump up to attack Popeye. As the player progress, there will be more danger other than Brutus such as a sea hag.
