Missile Command is released in 1980 by Atari Inc for their Atari 2600. In the
game, the player’s objective is to protect the 6 cities from ballistic missiles
by controlling the 3 patriot missile or anti-missile defence as long as
possible.
The player will use mouse to aim and left mouse click to
shoot projectiles to nullify the ballistic missiles. The projectile will
explode on the spot clicked by the player. It will create an area which is able
to destroy the ballistic missiles. The area will remains for a few seconds
before disappearing. The player will be given 3 anti-missile defences, placed
on both sides of the cities and on the middle. These anti-missile defence
facilities are not invincible so it can be destroyed by the incoming missiles. The
destroyed anti-missile defence facilities are restored when the player reached
the next level, but not the cities. A level is over when all the missiles are
fired already and the player survives. The game is over when all the 6 cities
are annihilated. As the level increases, the speed of the ballistic missiles
may varies, more number of missiles fired in the level, and more variety of missiles
(e.g. splitting missiles and evading missiles).
