Kingdom Rush

Kingdom Rush is developed by Ironhide Game Studio and published by Armor Games in 2011. It is available online on armor games, iOS, and Android. It is a tower defence game.

The player has to survive waves of enemies in order to complete a stage. The number of waves may depend on the stage. The player is given a number of lives and gold at the start of the game. The number of lives given to the player depends on the mode the player is playing. Player will be given 20 lives in campaign mode or a single life in heroic challenge mode or iron challenge mode. The lives of the player decrease if an enemy goes past your end of the arena. Weak enemies can only reduce one life per enemy while higher ranked and stronger enemies can reduce more than one life per enemy. Boss enemy may even take 20 lives from the player if it goes past your defence. If the player manages to have one or more lives at the end of the waves, the player clears the stage. Stars will be given depending on the player's performance.

The gold is used to build towers, which will attack the incoming enemies automatically, and upgrade them. There are 4 basic types of towers in Kingdom Rush: Archer Tower (high rate of fire, low damage, targets flying and walking enemies, inflicts physical damage, large attacking damage), Mage Tower (slow rate of fire, high attack damage, targets flying and walking enemies, inflicts magical damage, small attacking range), Barracks Tower (produces soldiers to hold enemies, soldiers inflicts low physical damage, maximum of 3 soldiers per tower at a time, unable to attack flying enemies), and Artillery Tower (inflicts high, splash, physical damages, low rate of fire, intermediate range). The basic towers can be upgraded to 2 different towers each.

The enemies possess specific strengths and weakness of their own depending on the type. Some enemies can fly instead of walking on the ground and cannot be targeted by artillery towers and barrack towers. Some enemies have high physical armour which will reduce the physical damage of towers such as archer towers, barrack towers, and artillery towers. Some enemies have high magical armour which reduces the magical damage done by mage towers. Some enemies can move faster than other types of enemies. Aside from physical and defence characteristics, enemies may have special abilities. For example: Spider Matriarch can lay eggs in middle of the path and hatch Spider Hatchlings, thus increasing number of enemies. Trolls have the ability to heal themselves slowly. Troll Chieftains can heal other Trolls near him and increase their physical qualities (attack and speed) and defence (both magic and physical) for a limited time. Necromancers can spawn Skeletons and have ranged attacks. Necromancers will usually place themselves behind the Skeletons they summoned, making them harder to kill.  Enemy types depend on the combination of these attributes. There are no enemy that is invincible.

The player can control hero as they desire. There can only be one hero at a time. The hero acts like soldiers produced by barrack towers except that they have special skills and are able to level up. Hero is stronger than ordinary soldiers. The player can choose the hero they like in the hero’s room once it is unlocked.

Infinity Blade

Infinity blade is a game developed by Chair entertainment and epic games. It was first published in near end of 2010 and the sequel, Infinity Blade 2, was released a year after that in apple app store. It is an action RPG game. It features one on one battle with various enemies and fight your way to different bosses.
In this game, the player will ascend to the castle of God King, the arch enemy of the player. On his way towards him, the player needs to defeat monsters and survive long enough to face God King. The player is given a choice of route to take at some points but the ultimate end of the route is the same. While battling the enemies, player can dodge, block or parry enemy’s attacks. You have to defend against the last attack of the enemy’s attack chain in order to get a chance to counter-attack the monster. The player can dodge and block by touching buttons displayed on the screen. Player can swipe across the screen to give a slash to the enemy. Parrying is done when the player slash in the opposite direction of the enemy’s attack. Player is also equipped by 2 special powers, super attack and magic. The super attack allows the player to attack the enemy regardless of their state is. The magic depends on the equipment the player wears. It may have healing effect or elemental magic attacks. The main aim is to kill the God King. Once the player died, he/she will repeat from the starting point as the descendant of the previous character and the aim slightly changes to avenge previous generation. The story is made so that it can be repeated. These iterations is called Rebirth.
The monster’s level is matched to the player’s level to maintain the difficulty. The bosses have a higher starting level and it will increase if the player managed to defeat them. For example, God King is level 100 in first rebirth. If the player defeats him, his level will increase by 50 to 150 for the next rebirths.  After the player defeat God King, he/she has the option to continue to the next rebirth or repeat from rebirth 1 and lose all gold and equipments but retain the level. This way, the character level is unlimited.
The sequel, Infinity Blade 2, continues the storyline from Infinity Blade. The player gains the ultimate weapon called ‘The Infinity Blade’ used by God King. Because of that reason, all Deathless, the immortal race which God King is in, targeted him. He wants someone to take the blade off his hands and live a normal life. He decided that the Worker of Secrets, a prisoner of the Deathless, is the suitable person since he hates Deathless. He finds his way to the Vault of Tears, the place Worker of Secrets is held prisoner. In this sequel, the game play is basically the same except that the player has the more variation of weapons to choose. The light weapon category gives the player the ability to dodge left and right, block, and parry (same as Infinity Blade). The dual weapon category removes the block ability since the player is not using shield. The block is replaced by dodging downward. Other abilities are the same as light weapon category. Heavy weapon category removes the dodging action. It is replaced by 3 direction blocking. The rest of the abilities is the same as light weapon category.

Pac-man

PAC-man is a game developed by Namco in 1980s. The game can be played by 2 players (as seen in the picture above) by taking alternate turns between players.

The player controls the yellow circle with a mouth. The aim is to eat all the pellets (yellow dots arranged all over the maze) while avoiding the ghosts and advance to the next stage. By eating the power pellets, indicated by a big pellet, PAC-man gains power and are able to eat the ghosts. every pellets and ghosts eaten will add to the player points. The stage is set randomly so there are no easy way to advance. As more stage is completed, the ghosts will have more speed and quicker than before.

Yars' Revenge

Yars' revenge is released for the Atari 2600 in 1982. It was the best selling original title for 2600.

Player will control a flying robot and try to kill the alien on the right hand side of the screen. The robot is equipped with a laser gun and energy-collecting abilities. The alien can only be damaged by using cannon in the station on the left hand side of the screen. The station will follow player’s robot at lower speed. Player’s robot aims to gather energies released after the death of small enemies. The energy will then be used to charge the cannon in the station. If the player’s robot is in the way, it is possible to kill yourself by using the cannon.

While the game have no end (I assume so), player are challenged to reach the highest level possible or to the limit where they will give up. The enemies will become more powerful, harder to kill and more aggressive.
